A Ripper First Season!
2020 Season Summary
In 2020 Gabriel turned 7-years-old and started racing in Karting Australia events for the first time, competing in as many races as possible, between the COVID lockdowns.
Gabriel has a great first season, winning all of his P-Plate events, taking multiple Group Challenge trophies and finishing in the top 5 more often than not.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the season was Gabriel's 5th Place in the Queensland State Titles.
Many thanks to all of our supporters, family and friends who encourage Gabriel on his racing journey.
IKC Round 1
Cadet 9: 1st P-Plate Class, 10th Overall
February 2020
February 1st was Gabriel's very first Karting Australia race. It was a huge field of competitors and Gabriel was very excited to finally be in the mix in a KA race, especially at IKC.
As a P-Plater he started in the rear of the grid, but managed to make some great moves and excellent lap times.
As a first-time KA racer, Gabriel raced hard in the P Plate class on his JT Motorsport engine and managed to make up more than quite a few positions in each heat.
For Heat 1 he started 14th in his class, finished 7th overall in the Cadet 9 Mini Roks, stealing 1st Place in P Class.
In Heat 2 he started way down near the back of the pack, finished 4th overall in the Vortex, and again took out 1st Place in P Class.
The Pre-final saw him start in 13th and finish in 8th overall in his class, with another 1st Place win in P-Plate Class.
For the Final, Gabriel started 14th, finished in 10th overall in the Cadet 9 Mini Roks and won 1st Place in the P Class for the day. He also achieved the 3rd best lap times overall for the day on the Cadet 9 Vortex Mini Rok.
A big congratulations to every one of the Cadet 9 karters who all drove so well this weekend. It was wonderful to meet so many new competitors!
WKC Round 1
Cadet 9: 1st P-Plate Class, 4th Overall
March 2020
We all had a fantastic time at Warwick Kart Club last weekend with SKD Kart Development. Gabriel raced well, busting out some ripper lap times, and scored another 1st place Cadet 9 P-Plate trophy.
A HUGE thank you to the club for putting on a great event and to all of our racing friends for another fun weekend!
Rapid Racing
Cadet 9: 1st P-Plate Class, 7th Overall
July 2020
Warwick Kart Club ran a Rapid Racing event over two days as a post-COVID lockdown racing warm up. Although Gabriel had some engine issues, with some slow laps and a DNF, he still managed to finish 1st in the P-Plate class, achieving 7th position overall. It was a tough weekend, but still a lot of fun!
IKC Return to Racing
Cadet 9: 5th place
July 2020
Ipswich Kart Club's Return to Racing meet was a little different from the usual race day, with only three races. Gabriel raced against some tough competition and landed 5th, 6th and 8th, placing him in 5th at the end of the day.
IKC Round 2
Cadet 9: 4th place overall, 1st in Group Challenge
August 2020
Gabriel and Dad had a great time at IPSWICH KART CLUB on the Father's Day weekend and managed to get some awesome results. Go team 13!
Here’s a summary of Gabriel’s results from the day...
Heat 1: Started 11th on the grid (random draw) and finished 6th
Heat 2: Started 8th (reverse random draw) and finished 6th
Heat 3: Started 4th (points), finished 3rd
Final: Started 4th (points), finished 4th
At the end of the day, Gabriel achieved 1st place in his Club Challenge group. Gabriel was also very pleased to have achieved some awesome lap times throughout the day.
WKC Cool Runnings
Cadet 9: 3rd place
August 2020
Gabriel participated in the Cool Runnings race meet at Warwick Kart Club, finishing in 3rd place. He was happy to have pulled some great starts and overtakes in each heat.
September Summary
IKC Round 3
Cadet 9: 4th place overall, 1st in Group Challenge
Gabriel had some solid lap times this weekend at IKC and raced hard to move up in the final. He came 4th overall (final only counts) and once again achieved 1st place in his Club Challenge group.
WKC Spring Meet
Cadet 9: 4th place
The Spring Meet at Warwick Kart Club was another fun weekend. Gabriel landed a 5th, 3rd, 4th and 4th, putting him in 4th place overall for the day. Well done!
IKC Round 4 - Graham Acreman Memorial
Cadet 9: 4th place
Leading up to the QLD State Championship there was some tough competition at IKC for Round 4. Gabriel raced hard in all heats, resulting in 4th place overall.
Queensland State Championship 2020
Cadet 9: 5th place
October 2020
Gabriel participated in his first State Championship this weekend at
IPSWICH KART CLUB. Despite having some issues in practice and qualifying, he managed to work his way up through the field over the weekend to finish in the top five.
Not only did Gabriel walk away with an impressive trophy, but he also won a set of tyres. Winner, winner!
WKC 4SS Triple Crown
Cadet 9: 2nd place
October 2020
At the 4SS Triple Crown meet at Warwick Kart Club over the weekend Gabriel busted out a personal best and drove consistently well throughout the day, landing him 2nd place in Cadet 9.
Deservedly so, Gabriel was very proud of himself after putting such a massive effort into his practice of late. Well done!
